UNICEF donates safe space for migrant children and women

Santiago, D.R.- The General Directorate of Migration (DGM) inaugurated a new safe space for children, adolescents, and pregnant or nursing women intercepted due to irregular immigration status. The facility, donated by UNICEF, aims to provide vulnerable groups with secure and comfortable conditions during migration processing. This center in Santiago is part of a broader agreement creating three similar facilities, including one in Dajabón (already operating) and another under construction in Elías Piña, with a combined investment exceeding 18.2 million Dominican pesos. Each center features recreational areas, offices for psychosocial support, rest areas, accessible design, and air conditioning to ensure privacy, well-being, and protection for users.
