Yudelina Mejía becomes first Dominican woman to win gold at World Weightlifting Championships

Norway.- Dominican weightlifter Yudelina Mejía made history by becoming the first Dominican woman to win a gold medal at the World Weightlifting Championships, held in Norway, after claiming victory in the snatch event of the 86 kg category with a lift of 122 kilograms. Mejía, originally from El Seibo, outperformed Olympic champion Solfrid Koanda of Norway, who finished second after failing her attempt at 123 kg. The Dominican athlete’s achievement marks a major milestone following her near-podium finishes at both the Paris Olympics and last year’s World Championships in Manana. In addition to her gold medal, the 28-year-old lifter also earned two silver medals — one in the snatch and another in the clean and jerk — bringing home a total of three medals.
